MARK KOSTABI. Quarantacinquenne americano di origine estone, inspiegabilmente osannato da una gran parte della critica d'oltreoceano, si reputa ora talmente famoso da non dipingere più lui, ma da esporre sotto una sua etichetta ("Mark Kostabi palette" i lavori degli assistenti). Qui una serie di manichini in bianco e nero banalmente ripresi da De Chirico. Questo è tutto. Nessun altro commento (Studio G)

Ugo Rondinone fa girare la testa, alzare le sopracciglia, bagnare le labbra di piacere con le sue installazioni da soap-opera, i suoi autoritratti da regina del glamour e i suoi immensi disegni di spazi stranamente seducenti.
Rondinone conosce tutte le Regole della Seduzione. (�)
Mischiando raggi psico-trance con le linee così chic degli stilisti, Ugo Rondinone diventa un perfetto arbitro dell'eleganza stile Bryan Ferry. (�)
Rifacendosi ai modelli di grazia e celebrità, i dipinti di Rondinone sanno stupire senza il minimo sforzo. Sconvolgenti e belle, sensuali come il canto di una sirena, seducenti e intellettuali, queste tele hanno le vibrazioni giuste. Perfezione: superficiale, desiderabile e intangibile.

In yesterday's sunday times Michael Heizer was quoted complaining about the "fickle and amnesiac" New York artworld and that on reason that other artists like Robert Smithson got all the credit for wath he did first is that he didn't write articles about his own work and go to cocktail parties. I don't want to meet with the same fate so here's a little self-written article about my recent painting, "A Singular Journey", 1999:
Inspired by the fact that my apartment in Rome is a few steps away from the depicted piazza (Campo dei Fiori) and by a nude on a magazine cover wich I bought in the same piazza, this painting speaks of the singular journey of Giordano Bruno, eternally commemorated in bronze in the center of the piazza for being burned at the stake here because he openly agreed with Copernicus that the world was round. I was also inspired by a painting of Campo dei Fiori by Francesco Trombadori which spoke to me with it metaphysical stillness. Both the Trombadori and the Kostabi are restrained, muted, serene and austere - words one would not normally associate with the hustle-bustle of Campo dei Fiori with its levely daily market full of vendors and visitors. But is not necessarly the job of the artist to reveal the world as it seems on the surface. Here we might consider the intellectual silence and emptiness of maddening lynch-mob crowd. An angel gracefully swoops downward to shed a tear of solace for the lone visionary.
